I'm fundraising for the World's Greatest Shave
I love my dreadlocks. Friends love my dreadlocks. I'm identified by classmates and colleagues alike as "Jess with the dreads". And I'm going to shave them off.
Shaving my head has always been on my bucket list. But from dreadlocks to bald? Pretty sure I'm going to instantly regret this.
But you know what's worse than forseeing your own version of Britney Spears' 2007 buzz cut drama? Cancer.
Blood cancer is Australia's hidden cancer crisis. There are 140,000 families facing blood cancer right now. And it takes the lives of 16 Australians every day.
And whilst I don't have a personal connection to this disease, in my time working at a children's hospital I've witnessed a number of families come into the ED and receive a life-altering diagnosis of Leukaemia. It's gut wrenching. So I decided that I'd leverage the shock value of shaving off my dreadlocks to raise some money and help to one day eradicate those moments.
The Leukaemia Foundation gives Australians facing blood cancer life-changing practical and emotional support. And to fund critical research, bringing us closer to the day when zero lives are lost to blood cancer.
Your donation means that together, we're working to stop blood cancer in its tracks. Any amount – big or small – will make a real, tangible difference. And anything over $2 is tax deductible.
I've loved these locs for the last 6 years. The more money I can raise for this excellent cause, the less reason I'll have to cry when they come off! So thank you in advance for your financial - (and future emotional?) - support!
❤️ Jess with the dreads
PS - for those that have asked, I have no plans on shaving them off publically... even asking for donations is well outside my introvert comfort zone. However, everyone has a price..... if anyone makes a single donation of $1000 or more - they can name the place - the break room at lunchtime, drinks after work etc. That's the price of my public humiliation.

No regrets, Jess! Just the start of a new nick name. "Jess who raised thousands of dollars for blood cancer research by going outside of her comfort zone and shaving off her dreads". (might need a little tightening up).
