Celebrating International Women’s Day
Each year, International Women’s Day has a unique theme to celebrate women’s achievements from across the globe. This year’s theme is #BalanceforBetter, encouraging our society to live in a more gender balanced world, where men and women are treated and respected equally.
For 2019’s World’s Greatest Shave, we have seen some amazing women sign up to participate with the promise of shaving their head. Women are strong and courageous and not afraid to shave their heads to help fellow Aussies.
Some inspiring women shaving this year are Pat Healy, her daughter Kate Trezise and granddaughter Molly Healy (pictured above). That’s three generations of women from one family who have pledged to cut off their luscious locks to help raise money for the foundation. We’ve also got the beautiful radio presenter Abby Coleman taking part. The mother of three boys is aiming to raise a staggering $50,000 to shave all her gorgeous blonde hair off. This will be done by none other than the little girl Bridget who inspired her to shave, having had blood cancer when she was younger.
Here are some truly inspiration quotes from strong, bold women who truly encapsulate what International Women’s Day is all about.
Rosa Parks, Civil Rights Activist
“I have learned over the years that when one’s mind is made up, this diminishes fear; knowing what must be done does away with fear.”
“You have just one life to live. It is yours. Own it, claim it, live it, do the best you can with it.”
Michelle Obama, Lawyer, Writer and former First Lady
“You may not always have a comfortable life. And you will not always be able to solve all the world’s problems all at once. But don’t ever underestimate the impact you can have, because history has shown us that courage can be contagious, and hope can take on a life of its own.”
Oprah Winfrey, Actress, Talk Show Host and Philanthropist
“Forget about the fast lane. If you really want to fly, just harness your power to your passion.”
This year’s World’s Greatest Shave is taking place from the 13th-17th March 2019. You can sign up here to get involved and help shave the world from blood cancer.
