Help me take a stand against blood cancer
This year, on my 38th birthday (19th March), it
will mark 11 months to the day since Luca received life-saving donor stem cells
during his second stem cell transplant. I plan on shaving my head to raise
vital funds for the leukaemia foundation.
Luca was diagnosed with Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome, a
condition that impacts both his immune system and bone marrow, requiring
extensive treatment, including chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant. While
not a form of leukaemia, his condition shares similarities with leukaemia in
the need for these types of treatments.
Stem cell transplants can also play an important part of
leukaemia treatment, and I’m hopeful that the funds raised will help support
vital research into this area. This research benefits not only leukaemia
patients but also those with a variety of other conditions that can be treated
with stem cell transplants.
I am doing this for:
- Luca,
our little superhero. Watching your child endure high doses of
chemotherapy that wiped out his entire bone marrow, dealing with illness,
pain, and long periods of isolation is heartbreaking. As a parent, it’s
incredibly difficult to feel so helpless, unable to take away their pain.
- A
close friend and her child, whom we met at Perth Children’s Hospital
(PCH). They faced multiple rounds of chemotherapy and a stem cell
transplant to treat leukaemia, all before their little one turned 18
months old.
- A
best friend and her family, who tragically lost their brother/son to leukaemia.
- One
of Sofia’s first friends, who’s been in the hospital for the past 18
weeks, having undergone a second stem cell transplant – you've got this,
buddy!
- All
the incredibly brave warriors we met at PCH during our 2.5-year journey,
and the families who supported us through treatment.
- The incredible
doctors and nurses at PCH who have been with us every step of the way.
- For
continued research into cancer, blood disorders, and stem cell
transplants.
Right now, over 150,000 Australians are facing the devastating impact of blood cancer, and 17 lose their life every single day.
That’s why I’m taking on the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave. By donating to my page, you’ll help me raise funds and awareness for blood cancer, and fuel life-changing research projects and support services for patients and their families.
