why are we shaving???
Between us, we have had a fair bit to do with people with cancer and Leukaemia. Chris was an oncology/haematolgy nurse where he treated many patients with cancer or Leukaemia.I worked in Pathology where I would collect bloods prior and after treatment and am now a paramedic.
In the 15 years we have been together we have both done the worlds greatest shave for the leukaemia foundation and I have cut to donated my hair several times..
But.. last year we got a taste of the 'other side'.
On November 11th 2024, after several weeks of painful symptoms, my brother Pete was finally diagnosed with AML, a very aggressive leukaemia.
Unfortunately for him he was also septic.
On the 11th of November pete was admitted to icu and intubated. He was transferred to the PAH ICU on the 12th of November and only 2 days after diagnosis, Petes supportive measures were turned off on the 13th November at 6pm and he passed away.
This is why this year we will be shaving our heads for Pete.. so hopefully we help raise awareness and help support the leukaemia foundation.
