How to Shave, Cut or Colour your hair for the World’s Greatest Shave

19 Mar 2024

The World’s Greatest Shave, formerly known as Shave for a Cure, is one of the country’s longest-running and most iconic fundraising campaigns. Bringing Australians together to champion a good cause for over 25 years.

Some have a personal connection to blood cancer, while others simply want to have fun, take on a personal challenge, or just do something for a good cause.

Thanks to the funds raised by our World's Greatest Shave community, the Leukaemia Foundation is there with practical and emotional support, care and information. Because we want people not just to survive blood cancer like leukaemia (leukemia), lymphoma and myeloma, but to thrive.

Signing up for the World’s Greatest Shave is easy. You can sign up as an individual, as part of a team, or create a team and invite others to join you.

Do you have to Shave or are there other ways to take part?

While many Australians step up to Shave for cancer, it’s not the only way to take part. Cutting hair for cancer or even a Colour for cancer are popular ways to take on the World’s Greatest Shave.

Whether you choose to Shave, Cut or Colour your hair, your impact will be the same. What’s important is that you’re taking matters into your own hands. You’re letting blood cancer patients know you’re in their corner. And that’s bloody beautiful.

When is the World’s Greatest Shave?

The official event for the World’s Greatest Shave is March 2024, however you can take part at any time of the year whenever it suits you. That’s the beauty of the World’s Greatest Shave.

Where to Shave, Cut or Colour your hair?

You can take part in the World’s Greatest Shave anytime, anywhere. Whether it be from home, work, school, a park, or down at your local.

Every year we see Australians Shaving, Cutting and Colouring their hair in all sorts of places. From backyards and hair salons to shopping centres and parks.

Where you choose is completely up to you. You can ask a friend or family member to Shave, Cut or Colour your hair at home, or you could reach out to your local community.

We recommend connecting with local hairdressers or barbers. Tell them about your upcoming World’s Greatest Shave, where the money goes, and ask if they will donate their time to help you Shave, Cut or Colour your hair free of charge.

You can also reach out to your local venue – like a pub or shop. And ask if they would like to host your event.

If you want to Colour for cancer, you can ask your local hairdresser if they can colour your hair, or you can purchase a spray-on colour from a pharmacy or supermarket and do it yourself at home. Remember, it doesn’t have to be permanent.

Donate your hair and take your impact even further.

What if we told you the hair you buzz or lop off can not just help Australians facing blood cancer, but the environment too?

We’ve teamed up with Sustainable Salons to recycle hair into wigs for cancer patients, and floating hair booms to mop up oil spills in our oceans.
