"We need to bloody give back as much as we can to these guys, they've done so much for me" - Josh Hills, March 2023
In December 2019, Josh was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He commenced treatment in 2020 before using his own bone marrow for a transplant, which was successful, and he entered remission shortly after.
In mid-2021, Josh was informed that his lymphoma had returned, and he required a donated bone marrow transplant. As this treatment was not available in Hobart, we chose Brisbane, where his sister—the donor—was living at the time. The Leukaemia Foundation organised accommodation for him during his treatment, providing vital support throughout the process. The transplant procedure went well, but unfortunately, his body rejected the cells, and he was sent home in March 2022.
Josh’s health deteriorated significantly, leading Brisbane to offer another donated bone marrow transplant, scheduled for November 2022. However, his condition continued to decline throughout the year, and he was ultimately too unwell to undergo the procedure. A flight was arranged through the Royal Flying Doctor Service to bring him home.
As a family, we hold this event annually to give back to and thank the Leukemia Foundation for providing accommodation, transport, food vouchers, and ongoing support, even to this day.
So, we are asking you to donate to this worthy cause, and come and join us for A day for Josh where we will have the greatest shave, along with live music, lucky door prize & raffles. Hope to see you all on the 1st of March 2025!
