Cancer is something you don’t really think about — until it shows up and everything changes. It’s like this constant pain in the background that never really goes away. It doesn’t just make people sick; it takes away moments, memories, people. I felt that for the first time in 2021 when my best mate — the one I laughed with every day, the one who always had my back — lost his fight with cancer. We were only in Year 8. None of it made sense. Fast forward to year 12 it still doesn’t.
And the thing is, it’s not just my story. It’s happening to people all around us. It's that kind of sadness that words can’t fix. It’s more common than we think, and that’s the scariest part.
That’s why it’s so important to support things like the World’s Greatest Shave. When you donate, you’re not just giving money — you’re giving hope to families going through the hardest times of their lives. You’re helping fund research and fund critical blood cancer support products that could save someone else’s best mate/ loved one. Even the smallest donation can go a long way. It might not feel like much, but to someone fighting cancer — or someone learning to live without the person they love — it means everything.
