Help me take a stand against blood cancer
Hi,
My name is Damian, and I'm a PhD student studying Leukaemia and Lymphoma, at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute (WEHI), in Melbourne. I'm also a recipient of a Leukaemia Foundation PhD Scholarship.
Blood cancer is a devastating disease, that can be difficult to treat. My research guides novel therapies targeting a protein called MCL-1. This protein is used by cancer cells to escape cell death. My goal is to understand MCL-1's function in great detail, so we therapeutically kill cancer cells, and leave healthy cells intact.
Medical research is careful process that requires long-term funding. So, that's why I'm shaving my head this year - to raise awareness and give back to the Leukaemia Foundation, for supporting this crucial research!
